What is Sodium Methyl Siliconate

Sodium Methyl Siliconate is a single-component curing synthetic polymer waterproof material with good permeability and crystallinity. It is widely used in many industries such as construction and chemical industry. The highly effective waterproofing mechanism of sodium methyl silicate is based on a series of complex and sophisticated chemical reactions. In an environment with water and carbon dioxide, sodium methyl silicate will first undergo a hydrolysis reaction to generate methyl silicic acid alcohol. This process is the starting step for it to play a waterproofing role. Water and carbon dioxide, as participants in the reaction, provide the necessary conditions for the subsequent reaction. ​

The generated methylsilicic acid alcohol has a high reactivity and will further undergo condensation reactions and react chemically with components in building materials, such as cement and lime. These reactions will form an insoluble waterproof film with a thickness of only a few molecules on the surface and inside of the structural material. This waterproof film is not a simple physical covering layer, but is tightly bonded to the building material through chemical bonds to form a whole. ​

This waterproof membrane has many excellent properties. It can effectively prevent the penetration of water, whether it is direct contact with liquid water or the diffusion of water vapor. At the same time, the waterproof membrane also has good air permeability, which means that while preventing water from entering, it can allow moisture inside the building materials to dissipate outward, avoiding material damage caused by moisture accumulation, such as mold, rot, freeze-thaw damage, etc. In addition, the waterproof membrane also has anti-rust, anti-aging, anti-pollution and other characteristics, which can significantly improve the durability and service life of building materials.
